The republic of Liberia is a country founded in West Africa bordered by Sierra Leone to the west, Guinea to the north and the Ivory Coast to the east. Liberia covers an area of 43,000 sq. miles and home to about 3.7 million people. Liberian English is the official language and over thirty indigenous languages are spoken with in the country. Its coastline is mostly mangroves, and then rain-forests and grasslands. The climate is hot with significant rainfall during the months of May though October.
​ Liberia is the only country in Africa that was colonized by The United of America. Beginning of the 1820, the freed slave immigrants established a new country with the help of the American Colonization Society. With the help of the ACS, the former slaves had equal rights and greater freedom in Liberia, West Africa. In 1847, Liberia became independent and was the Republic of Liberia. The capital city, Monrovia was named after the fifth president of the Untied States, James Monroe. The American Liberians led the political, social, cultural, and economic sectors for over 130 years. In the mid 20th century, Liberia began to modernize with assistance from the United States of America. The Robert International Airport and the Free Port of Liberia was built through a lend - lease program during World War II.
​In 1989, Charles Taylor lunched a civil war by the rebel group call National Patriotic Front of Liberia fought against the Doe's government, it was like Dooms day. Children where taken away from their parents and where force to become child solders. By September 1990, the government forced control over small areas in the country just outside the capital Monrovia.  The president of Liberia, Samuel Doe where soon captured and executed.The rebels then split into small groups and where fighting one another. The Economic Community of West African States sent military task force to intervene and stop the war. From 1989 - 1996, the Liberian Civil War has claimed more than 200.000 Liberian lives and displacing millions as refugees in neighboring countries and around the world.
